At 3:09 p.m. FFFD and Frederick Police Department were dispatched to Milavec Lake for a female and a dog who had fallen through the ice and who could not get out of the water. FFFD crews were able to rescue the female and her dog and had them onshore by 3:27 p.m.
The female, who is approximately 30 years old and a Thornton resident, was transported to Longs Peak Hospital for minor injuries and the dog was taken by Animal Control as a precaution for observation.
During the winter months, the ice in Colorado is rarely strong enough to support extra weight. It is important to always stay off the ice, and if an animal should run onto the ice and fall through stay on the shore and call 9-1-1 immediately.
