  • The Frederick Fire Department was first organized in 1915. The Department had eight volunteers.
  • In 1975, the residents of a nine-square mile area voted to form the Frederick Area Fire Protection District. The District was formed to provide services that could be supported with property taxes collected from residents that lived within the boundaries.
  • In 1981, the District purchased the Frederick Water Plant to build Fire Station 1 which was located in old town Frederick. 
  • In 1988, the District hired its first full-time employee whose job was to maintain the equipment, housekeeping, conducting fire prevention classes and business fire inspections, and record keeping.
  • In 1995, the District decided to provide better service to the I-25 corridor and residents West of I-25, Fire Station 2 was built to serve the central and West area of the District. 
  • In 1998, the District expanded to three (3) full-time employees with each working a 24/7 shift on a rotating basis.
  • In 2000 the District expanded its full-time employee base to six (6) allowing for two firefighters per each 24-hour shift.
  • In, 2003 the Town of Firestone requested to be included in the protection area. 
  • On February 2, 2003, the District Court approved the changing of the Fire District's name to Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District.
  • In 2003, the District’s voters approved a General Obligation Bond for apparatus and the construction of future fire stations.
  • In 2006, Frederick-Firestone Fire took full ownership over the Tri-Area Ambulance to provide advanced life support transport services for the Fire District.
  • In, 2006, the District expanded its full-time employee to meet the service needs of the community through full-time and temporary full-time employees. 
  • In 2006, the District opened Fire Station #3 in Firestone to serve the Northeast area of the District. 
  • From 2008 – 2016, the District was involved in many inclusions, exclusions, and court orders of the District boundaries as both Towns continued to grow in size and population.
  • In 2011, the District moved the Administration Offices from Fire Station 1 to the new location next to Fire Station 2 on the Frontage Road of I-25.  
  • In, March of 2019, the District opened Fire Station #4 on the border of Frederick and Firestone in the Northwest area of the District to meet current and future service needs.
  • In 2019, the Districts voters passed a mill-levy increase in order to provide additional staffing of firefighters and paramedics.
  • In 2020, the District hired sixteen (16) full-time firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians. This expanded the District’s full-time staff to 66 personnel and the District is 36 square miles with a population of over 35,000 residents.    
  • Today this District has four (4) stations and provides fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, technical rescue, water & ice rescue, hazardous material response, community risk reduction, emergency management, and advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical transport services to whom we serve.
